Circumspecto is a set of tools to show you how much information you give away with every webpage visit.
Frequently asked questions
We have been contacted by a number of people, most of whom have asked the same or similiar questions. In order to be able to provide these answers to everyone we have created this simple FAQ.
We will continue to update it as more questions come in, so if you have a question and you cannot find an answer on this page or anywhere else on the site, then please do not hesitate to contact us and ask us your question.
Why the name circumspecto?
The short answer is because we thought it was cool. We also wanted something that had a real meaning and be something people would find easy to remember.
Why build the site?
The aim of the site is a simple one, to educate internet users and highlight the sorts of information that we all give away freely every single time we visit a website. Privacy should be considered an inalienable right that we all have and that right is being eroded on a daily basis by huge coporation, governments and marketing companies.
Aren't you help the enemy?
We do not consider this site to be helping anyone other than the intended audience. The people who are already eating away at your privacy are well aware of the techniques used on this site but keep silent about them. What we are doing is showing you what is already happening on millions of sites already so that you can better protect yourself.
Is the code available?
No. Yes that is a very short answer but it is the answer. The code is not available nor do we have any intention of making it available in the future.
